Right now in Croatia the temperatures are sweltering, the death row dogs have a hard enough time as it is without having to worry about dehydration. Death row is a city hall run shelter but we are incredibly lucky that the staff and volunteers who work and visit the dogs there will do what they can to keep those dogs alive, vaccinate sterilise, vet care, chip the dogs etc in hopes of finding them homes. But they have to work with what they have this includes the bowls that city hall provide. How is this a problem? Well it is when the bowls are wider on the top than the bottom , not too bad for food as dogs will eat from the floor but in this heat, when water bowls are overturned this is a problem, in fact is life threatening.
Now the staff and volunteers will refill those bowls all day long (this is not like the majority of shelters there and in other regions of Europe that would leave the dogs to die and throw away the carcasses) . But the problem is there are 100 dogs in the shelter that has capacity for 70. At any one time, maybe 3 staff members on 1 of which is a vet treating the dogs and operating etc. 1 or 2 volunteers come in regularly when they are able but you can imagine the impossible task this is on the staff and also volunteers who go there to help.
I know you guys are use to us rushing in negotiating the release of large numbers of dogs from places where city hall are refusing to release dogs or let rescuers in, , sterilising and vaccinating entire shelters in one hit or our ticket to freedom projects where we raise funds, find homes for 15 - 20 dogs at a time but we also work in smaller ways too, to help make the lives better for animals.
In this case 10 large water bowls that are larger at the bottom than the top , meaning the water stays IN the bowls, also meaning less fights breaking out over precious spills of water...and less dogs suffering or dying from dehydration.

So this post is to thank AAFA supporters and donators for being there for the animals in not just Massive ways such as the recent Ambulance appeal ( will be ready shortly to get back on the road by the way grin emoticon ) or most recent saving the lives of 8 wee dogs just a few days ago who would have been targeted and killed by rogue dogs ( they are safe in the UK now doing their required kennel time, leaving for fosters and there new lives this Saturday after there DEFRA check) , but also for enabling us to send the money over for something as simple as 10 large bowls grin emoticon
You guys are amazing, we just don't think you realise how amazing you are xxx So from AAFA and the animals we help...THANK YOU
A special thank you to Keti Kamenar and Sandra Gajnok for searching for the best deals and driving round and buying the bowls on our behalf xx
