AAFA and our Hungarian network of rescuers - How Benji a dog found starved, beaten and brutalised had given up the will to live, rescued and now has hope for the future

When our network of Hungarian rescuers got a call from some people in a village about a dog who had been left for dead after being starved, beaten and brutalised by his previous owner for many years, the wonderful Hungarian rescuers immediately went into Action. However even they were shocked at what they found.

This poor dog was laying listless, no strength to move, in chronic pain from the injuries he had sustained over the years and of course his filthy matted fur coat crawling with maggots and worms, poor Benji had been through more than any dog should ever have to suffer.

Benji was immediately taken to the veterinarian, he had to be shaved and cleaned first to enable the Dr to get a clear view of Benjis body.

As you will see from this photos, a dog that was kicked, beaten, ignored by passers by, spit at and called names just because of the way he looked (because of human barbarity and neglect) emerged and incredibly handsome fellow.

He was given a thorough examination and vaccinated and dewormed. Then was taken to his new foster home where he will be receiving lots of love and care, good food and nutrients.

Though Benji has now been saved, what this boy really needs is a forever home.

Once he is nursed back to health and his character assessed we will be listing him for adoption and we hope with all our hearts to find this sweet dog that ending that before a few days ago he never would believe could come true.

If you would like updates on Benji or would like to be considered to adopt him please contact our charity as soon as possible

Please remember we and our network of rescuers help thousands of dogs just like Benji every year, it is only through our supporters kindness and generosity we are able to keep doing this. Please support our charity and help us make even more dogs dreams come true.

AAFA and our Croatian network of incredible rescuers - How a sweet small dog called Pale was rescued . Warning Graphic images, viewed discretion advised

When our Croatian network of rescuers were called to an address to help a small dog called Pale, what they found was horrific. When this small dog was just a puppy he was put onto a chain, as he grew the chain collar ingrained into his neck causing as you can see the most terrible of wounds. He was forced to endure this for so very long.

When our rescuers arrived and took him, they were told by his "then loving family" how they did not starve him as people have said, that they did care for him and treated his neck. Well, considering the chain since he was a pup was never removed and Pale in the rescuers car vomited up what he had last been given to eat ( maggot infested rotten meat) it was clearly obvious he would not have survived much longer with all the care and love his previous family had given to him.

This poor dog was treated, cleaned and his neck stitched up. This was the physical side of him taken care of, but he was terrified of humans, it does not bare thinking about of what would make this sweet dog want to hide as soon as he saw any human approaching.

However, with all the care and love his rescuers were giving to him, as you can see here sweet little Pale started to grow in confidence as well as health.

He has an amazing character and just wants cuddles and hugs all day long. He is now ready to find that family one that will not harm him, beat and abuse him and feed him rotten meat (when they could be bothered to feed him) but a family that will love him with all their hearts and welcome him into his new home as a member of the family.

We as our rescuers are unable to do what we do without people like you supporting us, enabling us to be there for dogs just like Pale day in and day out. Please support our charity and the work that we do, and please....

If you are that special family ready to show Pale what he should have been receiving ( all the cuddles and fuss any dog can manage) contact our charity as soon as possible...Pale is counting on you to give him that chance

THE WAR HAS BEGUN - How the Romanian Government are using the death of a young child to misuse public funds and begin the vile massacre of Romanian Strays

$

URGENT - CHECK OUR PETITION UPDATE - IT HAS COME TO LIGHT THAT THIS COULD BE A CASE OF THE ROMANIAN GOVERNMENT USING THE STRAYS TO COVER UP AN INFANTS ATTACK BY A PEDOPHILE AND CHILD MURDERER TO GET THAT VOTE TO SLAUGHTER THE STRAYS...HOW LOW WILL THE ROMANIAN GOVERNMENT SINK TO GET THAT VOTE?

NEW FOOTAGE BY JOURNALISTS FOLLOWING THE ROUTE THE 4 YEAR OLD WOULD HAVE HAD TO TAKE TO GET TO WHERE HIS BODY WAS FOUND...A ROUTE BY THE GRANDMOTHERS STATEMENT WOULD HAVE TOOK HIM 45 MINS TO MAKE  ( SHE STATES OUT OF HER SIGHT FOR JUST 45 MINS)

YOU WILL SEE IN THE CLIP THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN AN IMPOSSIBLE TASK FOR A 4 YEAR OLD TO COMPLETE. PROVING THE COVER UP AND HOW ROMANIA'S GOVERNMENT WOULD RATHER PROTECT A PEDOPHILE AND CHILD MURDERER IF IT GIVES THEM THE EXCUSE TO MASSACRE THE DOGS AND MAKE SOME EASY MONEY.

THE WAR HAS BEGUN

A few days ago sadly a young child and a sibling was in a Romanian park was left unsupervised by the grandmother. Sadly the boy was attacked and killed by a stray dog the boys name was Ionut, his brother also was bitten but this was not fatal . We do not know what provoked the attack, or who was to blame This most certainly was an awful thing to happen to any child, to any family. Across Europe we know this is a rare occurrence. However this single child's death has given the Romanian government the perfect excuse to declare war on the strays and line their vile pockets with public money.

The Romanian government right now are cruelly catching every stray they can see in every town and village and horrifically battering, poisoning and stabbing them to death. Tiny puppies, pregnant bitches NONE are being spared the barbarity

For every dog caught, killed, cremated the local dog pound invoices its local city hall on average 120 euros each dog, the city hall then take from the public purse (local tax payers) and sends a nice hefty cheque back to the dog catchers and city pound that are normally related in some form or another to the mayor of the city hall or the mayor is on the dog catchers payroll. Now do you see why they need public backing, why the scaremonger tactics?

They are not asking for the citizens permission to kill the dogs, they are asking the citizens if they can con them out of the taxes they pay the city halls!!!

THIS ENTIRE EXERCISE AND SCAREMONGER TACTICS IS A BLATANT MISUSE OF PUBLIC FUNDS, SOMETHING THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION CAN STOP AND INVESTIGATE
.........................................................................................................

Please help us to stand up for the strays of Romania and end this one sided, unfounded and barbaric massacre now by completing the following I whatever order you wish:

Step 1 – Educate yourself on the situation, read the information and stats below to understand why this barbaric war on the strays is a smoke screen and why it needs to be stopped.

Step 2 – Click here and sign the petition adding your own personal comment to why this must be stopped. Give your voice to those that cannot speak for themselves.

Step 3 – Share and cross post this red alert on yours and others social pages. In emails and anywhere that will help this red alert go viral as soon as possible.

Step 4 – For even greater impact, make your way through the emails and telephone numbers, face book pages and so on, contacting the people in power that can and should stop this vile war from continuing. Some example letters have been provided below. (Please do change and add your own words. This really will have a greater impact than a generic letter sent by others)

…......................................................................................................................

STEP 1
(EDUCATE/ARM YOURSELF WITH THE FACTS)

Romanian Government lies:
LIES - Romanian stray dogs are dangerous and MUST be eradicated by all means necessary.

The Romanian government claim that their stray dogs are a terrible threat to public safety( using the death of a poor child to spur this war), so we compared recorded stray dog attacks in other European countries in comparison to Romania's. We then compared the human population of each of those countries in comparison to Romania’s. After all if dogs are a threat to humans, we must take into account the human population in comparison to the attacks.

This is what the Stats prove:

FACT- Despite having a higher amount of strays on the streets in comparison to other European countries , they have a lower year on year rate of dog attacks ( See our data at end of this red alert) to the majority of other EU countries.

FACT – You are no more likely to be attacked by a dog in other European countries than you are buy a stray dog in Romania.

FACT - You more likely to be attacked by a owned pet dog in Germany, UK or Italy than you are from a feral street dog in Romania ( see stats below) The Romanian Government are lying not just to its own people but to the rest of Europe.

This cruelty MUST STOP
This massacre MUST STOP
This Fraud MUST STOP
This lies MUST STOP

The European commission already have a petition from (Kendra Pinder) Action Aid for Animals on the table that was presented last year that is still open, warranting an investigation into Romanian Governments misuse of public funds they need to action this immediately.

The European commission MUST ACT NOW and demand a stop to this massacre pending a full investigation into the basis of this war on strays. This is NOT about controlling the population of domestic strays, this is a cover to commit fraud of their own countries citizens taxes on a mass scale by the Romanian Govenment.

FACTS AND FIGURES PROVING THE WAR ON STRAYS BY THE ROMANIAN GOVERNMENT IS BUILT ON LIES

Germany Dog Attacks 303.031 - Population 82,302,465
Italy Dog Attacks 213,446 - Population 60,550,848
UK Dog Attacks 221,583 - Population 62,035,570
France Dog Attacks 222,147 - Population 62,787,427
Ukraine Dog Attacks 175,485  -  Population 45,448,329
Spain Dog Attacks 148,091 - Population 46,076,989
Romania Dog Attacks 82,189 - Population 21,486,371
Belgium Dog Attacks 38,045  - Population 10,712,066
Austria Dog Attacks 30,054 - Population 8,393,644

The Romanian government states its strays are so very dangerous towards humans.
YET other European countries who have a higher rate of dog attacks, or lower Human population but higher dog attack ratio advocate sterilisation NOT BARBARIC AND UNFOUNDED MASSACRES.

This is because unlike Romania WE DO NOT use our domestic stray population to defraud our citizens.

Latest AAFA Rescue in Croatia - 19th Sept 2013 2pm - Nino and Mino two dogs living in fear, being attacked by other dogs on a refuse dump rescued

$

Our wonderful Croatian network of rescuers let us know about some dogs living and trying to survive on a refuse dump. One little fella called Nino as you can see from the photos below was a walking skeleton. He stood no chance of survival with the harsh weather on its way soon and because the other dogs kept attacking him, he could not reach any food.

The other called Mino, a lovely affectionate dog ill treated by his owners and litterally dumped at the refuse tip where many dogs end up and left to try and survive.

As soon as we heard about them a rescue was organised and just an hour ago they both were rescued.

AAFA are now organising plastic kennels to be sent across to the area to provide some shelter in the months to come, also we will be funding sterilisations, feeding stations, vaccinations etc and will be keeping our watchful eye on this refuse tip, determined to help as many of these poor animals as we can.

Both dogs will be available for adoption once they have had their vet check, clinical examination, deflead, dewormed, fully vaccinated including anti rabies virus and microchipped.

Until they are ready to travel and through the quarantine period they will be staying with our lovely veterinarian Tragica and her Non profit group who will also carry out various assessments of the dogs to ensure the right home is found for them both.

If you would like to sponsor either or both of these dogs to help towards the costs of the rescue, vaccinations and so on please check out our website www.actionaidforanimals.com and see the donations page in ways you can help.

AAFA helping also in Bosnia

Yesterday someone tagged AAFA in a post about  a young dog and her pups that needed our help. Below is the request for help from the amazing Bosnian rescuers:

Living pains of a girl Doberman and her 8 babies
We received a call from people that in some location one can hear awful sound of whining and barking and that the dogs there are locked in for months now with no one around, and that some man comes once a week, sometimes even once in 2 weeks, and brings a liter of milk for the dogs inside.

People who called us didn’t have an idea what kind of dogs are locked inside or how many there are. They called us, hoping that we can help these dogs and to help them, because they couldn’t sleep from all the noise and from the smell they couldn’t even open a window. We went to the location and saw 2 closed garages, locked, and there was indescribable barking moan coming from the inside, a cry for help, like they are dying in misery.

We thought about breaking the door immediately and to see what are we dealing with, but in the hope that a police of our city will help, without us having to brake in to a private property and get God only knows how high fine, we called them. When they came and when we explained to them in detail what is going on, they only looked at us with a grin and asked “why were we called”… We were left speechless. We can hear the moans of poor dogs and they were laughing at us, because it is “only dogs”.. They only made a report and told us to go to the vet inspection and left..

So we were back at the beginning and we couldn’t hear the cries of the helpless dogs any longer, so we broke in the garage. When we opened the door, we had something to see.. One purebred poor DOBERMAN girl who is a living skeleton, she has no meat on her bones, and her 8 little babies. We were shocked and we didn’t know what to do, while the poor puppies and her rushed to the outside to the light of day..

It was an awful site to see.. Our assumption is that someone has taken her for the breeding and selling the babies, but she has been impregnated by a non-purebred dog and the babies are not “real Dobermans” . So he decided to lock her in a garage until both she and her babies die in agony. We have no idea what to do with them, we left them some food and water and cleaned the garage in which they are staying.. We need help and advice from you what to do??... We need to relocate them ASAP, but where… Poor mother Doberman and her 8 babies… :(((

....................................................................................................................................

Immediately we responded and pledged to help fund foster costs, vet fees and to find the Mummy dog a forever home when the pups are weened (of course she will first be sterilised) and when the pups are old enough to travel and fully vaccinated to also find them forever homes to ensure they will never have to endure a life as their mother so far has.

Andjeo and other Bosnian rescuers knowing now they had our support and also that of wonderful individuals who have donated towards foster care etc, they went back and rescued the mummy dog and her little family. Right now, tonight, they are sleeping safely with good food in their bellies, a soft warm bed and lovely people to care foor them in a private kennels. Tomorrow they will be off to the vets for a good inspection and to recieve all the vaccines/treatments they will need.

Thank you so very much to our donators and supporters, without you enabling our charity to be able to jump in and help dogs just like this poor mummy dog, so many more would die.

When they are ready to be adopted we will list them on our site www.actionaidforanimals.com if you would like to donate to our charity to enable us to help more animals in need, please check out our donation page on our website.

In this Music video as you will see they are now all very healthy and happy and looking for there very own forever homes.

STARS OF THE SHOW

ZILE - 3 years old now, Posavac hound mix

This poor sweet gentle dog got hit by a car twice,  crushed by a palette that injured his leg, that then was left to heal on its own causing him a slight limp meaning he will never ever get adopted in Croatia.

Since then he was poisoned and got babesiosis twice and finally as if all this was not bad enough he was shot and was beaten so badly by abusers that when he was rescued he was shaking like a leaf from fear and his injuries.

DIPSY - Male 7 Month Labrador cross
This poor little guy when only a pup was left to fend for himself, alone and starving in a very cruel world. When he approached humans from starvation  begging for something eat he would be chased away and rocks thrown at him.

One day he was so very hungry, that he snatched some food from a child's hands, this was enough for the adults to call the hunters to come and kill him with their axes.

Dharma - 4 month old Terrier Cross

This little pup was found along with her brother Greg and their mother. Originally there was 6 pups but due to starvation and the treatment they received from the humans on the streets only two pups and the mummy survived.

This little princess now needs her very own furever home

Sabina - 2 year old female Cocker Spaniel Cross
She lived on the streets in constant fear of being run over with a car, getting hit by a rock or stick, kicked by humans. On top of that, she wasn’t spayed and males were attacking her constantly which left her with six puppies. Only 2 survived, Greg and Dharma.

Considering what this young dog has been through, it is a credit to this sweet little dog that she not lost the ability to forgive humans and to long for fuss and cuddles from them.

She is in desperate need of a furever home, if you are considering an addition to your family please consider Sabina.

Rem - 2 year old Male Spaniel Cross

The most gentlest of dogs with most adorable eyes that are always looking so surprised. He doesn't ask for much, a loving home with lovely people is all he needs. Something his previous "owners" never gave him. He is fine with other dogs and good with cats. Walking on a leash isn't a problem and he's also house-trained. He wants someone who knows how to appreciate the love he can give and we believe he'll find that one special person

Little Terry - 9 month Female Terrier Cross
This little princess only a puppy was found living on an empty piece of land by the side of the road. Neighbors kicked her, and a few nice people left food and water for her. Her rescuers were able to pick her up after a place was made free by another dogs adoption. Though she is a little shy at first, once she gets used to you she will give you all the love and devotion she can muster.

Rasta - 2 year old Male Corgi Cross
This little fellas rescuers spent half an hour crawling in the grass before they caught him and carried him to the car This poor dog had been beaten, starved and ritually abused by the humans in his village. They took him to a safe house, washed and trimmed him...all the time he trembled but didn't at any point try to do anyone any harm. He is now in a yard with a tiny puppy we found just ten minutes before doing very well and awaiting his special family to find him.

AAFA Network of rescuers NGO Vukovar and 7of9 on national Croatian TV speaking about the benefits of sterilisation and the impact Action Aid for Animals has had on the animals in Croatia

$

Yesterday two NGO's Vukovar animal welfare group based in Vukovar and  7of 9 animal welfare group based in Osijeck who are part of our network of Croatian rescuers appeared on a national Croatian TV show. During there interview they advocated the benefits of sterilisation, responsible pet ownership and the positive impact our charity has had on Croatian strays.

Many are aware of the vile abuse that goes on in Romania, however what many do not realise is Croatia is exactly the same but without the hundreds of groups helping the animals as Romania now has. Action Aid for Animals have always been pioneers and rather than shy away at the daunting prospect of helping a country on our own, we jumped in feet first determined to make a difference.

Though our charity is only small, we have more animals to try and help and rescue than many of the larger more well known charities in the UK. We are only able to accomplish what we do because of the strong network of rescuers and carers we collaborate with in the country we are focusing upon and the help of our incredible supporters and donators.

We are more optimistic with what can be achieved in Croatia than Romania as the latter has not had time for the rot to sink in yet, the ability for city hall and some others to make a profit from the suffering if the strays. YES it is an animal abusive country, YES the cruelty and horrific treatment of animals is the same, at the same level as Romania, however the realisation of what money can be made from the strays has not happed quite yet. We predict there is a window of approx 2- 3 years to encourage local governments and its citizens into the mindset of sterilisation not slaughter on mass.

We hope that together with yours and others help we can keep that rot at bay and start a positive depletion of strays on the streets by catch , neuter and release programmes, sterilisation voucher projects and so on.

Please continue to support our charity and the NGOs, rescuers and carers we help

Action Aid for Animals launches the first free registry for non UK pets

$

0

A new free service from Action Aid for Animals was launched today to help safeguard non UK animals entering the UK. On a weekly basis there are messages on social networkng sites and on blogs about animals found with a foreign microchip but no registered details. In some cases this can lead to a pet not being claimed being euthanised.

Many do not realise that with foreign microchips unless you register yourself with petlog there no way of tracking that animal if he/she gets lost, there was also no way until now that rescuers and carers could guarantee the animals they have rescued and found adopters/fosters for would register the cat/dog on petlogs database.

Please note that in no way should this new service from AAFA be replaced or used instead of Petlog, this is a secondary measure to give some assurance to rescuers and carers that if the dog/cat that they have saved, cared for and found a loving home if the worst should happen there is somewhere that the animals details are stored.

Under no circumstances will ANY details be shared with a third party, nor will be used for spam/newsletters etc. This simply is a Free service our charity will provide where if a dog/cat is found in the UK with no details on the main UK Petlog system, then if the carer has submitted the animals details to us then at least there is something in place.

How to register your cats/dogs details with us.

1) Inform the adopter/foster carer/UK rescue that you are sending the cat/dogs details to AAFA to add to our database and this will include both the rescuer/carer and the adopters/fosters basic contact details and the animals chip number, and remind them to register the animals details with petlog

2) Send and email to microchipdatabase@actionaidforanimals.com

  • THE DOG/CATS NAME
  • THE DOG CATS MICROCHIP NUMBER
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ANIMALS
  • YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, EMAIL AND TELEPHONE NUMBER
  • THE ADOPTERS/FOSTERS NAME,ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER

That is literally all you have to do, we will the copy and paste that information into our database and store it indefinitely. If there are any changes needed to be made in the future, use the microchip number as reference.

VERY IMPORTANT YOU GIVE US THE CORRECT MICROCHIP NUMBER AS THIS IS WHAT WE WILL SEARCH UNDER.

AAFA delivers our generous donators aid to Hungary and Croatia helping feed the starving strays and rescued dogs/cats in need

This weekend a van of aid donated by our charity arrived in Hungary and another in Croatia to help feed the starving strays over therein these two countries. The winter has set in early over there and the urgency to get food and medical aid to those animals in need has never been greater. This weekend saw food, flea treatments, blankets, dog beds as well as an xray machine be delivered.

Last year thousands of animals died from the elements, this year, though we cannot save them all, at least a few more have full tummies even if only for a coulple of weeks. This gives them more of a chance to survive on the streets until foster places become available or forever homes.

If you could help or have aid to donate and help our cause please contact us as soon as possible

AAFA ADVENT CALENDAR - DAY 4

How our charity helped bring Christmas joy to the faces of some disadvantaged Romanian children.

When Action Aid for Animals first came up with the idea of transporting animals in need to new lives and homes outside of Eastern Europe, and then taking back vans full of aid, medical items and so on to the animals still in those countries needing our help, unbeknownst to the team then but our Romanian transport we like to call "Vlad" was to become this year a mechanical version of Rudolf to some disadvantaged children of Romania.

A wonderful lady and her group of good hearted individuals had collected toys, bikes, pens and goodness knows what to help children who would normally have very little or more likely nothing at Christmas time. Our charity pays for the furkids to travel to safety and pays for the aid to be taken back to Romania and elsewhere.

So when Dr Aurelian Stefan of Bucharest asked if we swing by Germany to collect some things for the children, how could we say no?

As you will see from these photos, there was lots of excitement, smiles and tons of laughter, something many including AAFA would say is what the Christmas spirit is all about.

So Thank you to the lovely people and donators of these wonderful toys, bikes and incredible fun stuff to give to the children, and thank you to Dr Stefan and Yvonne Laskowski for letting our charity have the honor of being the ones to organise the collection and delivery of those presents to such amazing and lovely children

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds, With no thought of the dog filling their head. And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Knew he was cold, but didn't care about that.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Figuring the dog was free and into the trash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the luster of midday to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But Santa Claus - his eyes full of tears.
He unchained the dog, once so lively and quick, Last years Christmas present, now thin and sick. More rapid than eagles he called the dog's name. And the dog ran to him, despite all his pain;
" Now, DASHER! Now, DANCER! Now, PRANCER and VIXEN! On, COMET! On CUPID! On, DONNER and BLITZEN!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall! Let's find this dog a home where he'll be loved by all" I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year, For Santa Claus had made one thing quite clear, The gift of a dog is not just for the season, We had gotten the pup for all the wrong reasons. In our haste to think of giving the kids a gift, There was one important thing that we missed. A dog should be family, and cared for the same! You don't give a gift, then put it on a chain. And I heard him exclaim as he rode out of sight, " You weren't given a gift -- You were given a life!"

The look of complete bliss in the arms of his new adopter, a wonderful Croatian lady who lives in the same town as the Non profit group that rescued him. Now safe and very much loved but this was not always the case for this sweet little dog.

Just over a month ago this precious little dog was barbarically tied to a fence in Croatia in sub zero temperatures. No way to find food, shelter or able to  defend himself against attackers. It was pure luck that one of the amazing rescuers from the NGO Vukovar in Croatia out on their regular outing to feed the street dogs spotted him. As you can see here he was terrified.

There are so many dogs just like Ozzy in Croatia, but because the focus at the moment seems to be on Romania, dogs and other animals in other countries who equally have to endure the same level of abuse and cruelty are almost forgotten about.

These animals deserve the same help, attention and rescuing as any other country. However because of the lack of awareness about what is really going on in Croatia these guys are very much forgotten about. Well Action Aid for Animals will not forget about them. With the help of incredible non profit groups just like NGO Vukovar we are determined to bring about change and make a difference in the lives of the forgotten animals of Croatia.

We hope that you will join us and together - We Really can make a difference
